Often when we are thinking about branding our top of mind is a website, logo, colors, and social media content that we are going to share. However, at Friday’s event Lesley asked us to think beyond that [even if we already have a brand in place].
BRAND = Bold Intention
REPUTATION = Reality
Your brand or bold intention as Lesley shared is what you show to the world so that others can get to know and understand where you are coming from. This bold intention is what builds your reputation and brings in the referrals… How did you make them feel after they have interacted with you? Were your interactions something they wanted to tell others about?
93% of our business over the last couple of years comes from referrals. This is where building a reputation that makes it easy for people to talk about us behind our backs, and tell others why it is they need to work with us needs to be at the top of our to-do list.
Just as an oyster adds layers to their shell over time; everything we do from making phone calls, to zoom presentations, online networking and so on adds layers to our brand. We want to make sure that we are focusing on the right areas that will add layers to our brand and not break them apart.
To get started with building our reputation we must first ask ourselves…
Who am I and what problem is it that I solve for others?
Figuring this out starts by looking back on our lives and determining what the running theme or book title of our life story would be. What experiences have we been through that led us to where we are today? How can we use those experiences to help others achieve their goals and build their dreams?
Once we are clear on where we came from, who we are, and what problem it is that we are here to solve, the next step is to not just spray and pray. We need to be very strategic with what it is we are putting out into the world. Remember it all comes back to building our reputation so that others will do the sharing on our behalf and bring in the referrals for us.
