Grand Potential Podcast

20Mar

This discussion with Melissa Deally, Permelia Parham, and Andrea Leigh Austin was truly eye-opening. It’s shocking to learn how much of the pharmaceutical industry is driven by marketing and profit rather than genuine health care. The insights about generic drugs and the lack of quality control in some manufacturing facilities were concerning. This conversation was a wake-up call to be more aware of what we’re putting into our bodies, ask more questions, and do more research on the source of products.

We also took a moment to express our deepest gratitude to our three incredible co-hosts—Melissa, Permelia, and Andrea—who have poured their time, energy, and passion into leading this group for the past two years. They have fostered an inspiring space for learning, growth, and meaningful discussions, and we truly appreciate all they have done to build this community. Their dedication and contributions have been invaluable, and we are so grateful for the beautiful foundation they have created.

As we move forward, we warmly welcomed Jean-Luc Allaire as the new host for the Grand Wellness, Mindset, and Laughter Group. Jean-Luc plans to keep the same format with talks and networking while also incorporating mindset discussions and humor—expect a joke at every event to keep things light and engaging! He is also excited to provide more opportunities for members to share their expertise, including featuring member Grand Talks in the agenda. If you have ideas for a topic, be sure to reach out to Jean-Luc!

Once again, a huge thank you to Melissa, Permelia, and Andrea for their dedication and leadership. You will be greatly missed, and your impact on this group will continue to be felt! 💙

🌟 Meeting Highlights:

  • Drug advertising changed everything when the FDA allowed TV and print ads in 1997.
  • Many brand-name drugs are kept expensive on purpose, even when they could be cheaper.
  • Instead of developing new treatments, companies often tweak existing drugs to extend patents.
  • The high cost of brand-name drugs led to more reliance on generic drugs.
  • Most generics are made in India, China, and Latin America, where production costs are lower, but regulations are weaker.
  • Always check where your medication comes from and talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have concerns.
  • You can ask your doctor to prescribe the brand-name drug if you want to avoid generics.
  • Be curious, ask questions, and research your medications.
