Grand Potential Podcast

18Sep

What a powerful conversation around the true spirit of collaboration and connection! Derek Morgan reminded us to look within our existing networks and follow through on the opportunities already there, while David Riklan showed us how partnerships become powerful when we clearly understand the value we can bring to others. Danny Bermant brought it all together by reminding us to lead with generosity, invest in relationships, and become the kind of partner others genuinely want to promote.

A special thank you to our wonderful co-host, Steve Brossman, for helping create such an engaging and generous space for these conversations. Together, these insights reminded us that when we connect with intention, support one another, and create value before asking for it, we open the door to meaningful relationships and shared growth that can ripple far beyond our own circles.

🌟Derek Morgan shared:

  • Shared that many valuable opportunities are already sitting within your existing network and simply need consistent follow-up.
  • Encouraged focusing on warm relationships instead of constantly chasing cold leads.
  • Existing customers can become valuable sources of referrals and referral partners because of the networks they already have.
  • Ask people who their ideal customers and ideal referral partners are, with a genuine intention to connect good people.
  • When you help others make connections, reciprocity can naturally lead them to ask how they can help you.
  • Be clear about your ideal referral partner, the value you provide, and why that value matters to them.
  • Simple networking questions can generate more relevant leads when they are used consistently.
  • Tracking referrals is essential because a connection has little value if there is no follow-up or follow-through.
  • Emphasized that filling a CRM with contacts is not enough. You need to engage and nurture the right relationships.
  • A structured referral partner program can support lead generation, engagement, sales conversion, customer retention, and re-engagement of past customers.

🌟David Riklan shared:

  • Emphasized that joint ventures and partnerships can help businesses reach larger audiences through referrals, promotions, and shared opportunities.
  • Partnerships can include email promotions, referrals, podcasts, speaking opportunities, summits, affiliate programs, and co-created products.
  • The first step is to create a master list of potential partners with their contact information and relevant notes.
  • Be clear about the value you bring to others, such as promoting their work, making introductions, sharing content, or providing speaking opportunities.
  • Helping others sell products, grow their communities, or generate income creates opportunities for mutual support and reciprocity.
  • Understand your ideal partners and clearly communicate what you offer and why it matters to them.
  • Write a clear proposal when approaching potential partners so they understand the opportunity and value of working together.
  • Successful networking requires treating joint ventures as an intentional part of your marketing, not just attending events and collecting contacts.
  • Highlighted transferred trust, where an introduction from someone trusted can carry that trust into a new relationship.
  • The key is to move beyond making connections and focus on supporting, partnering, promoting, and creating meaningful opportunities together.

🌟Danny Bermant shared:

  • Explained that successful JV partners are people others are excited to promote because they consistently create value.
  • Instead of approaching partnerships by asking, “What can you do for me?”, start by asking, “What can I do to support you?”
  • Giving value in advance helps build trust and shows potential partners that you are generous, reliable, and supportive.
  • Take time to understand a partner’s business, goals, and challenges so you can identify meaningful ways to help.
  • Build partnerships as long-term relationships, not one-time transactions or promotions.
  • Make it easy for partners to promote you by providing clear information, reminders, dates, and everything they need to reach their audience.
  • Communicate consistently and keep partners updated throughout the collaboration.
  • Being JV ready means having the right materials and systems in place, such as a one-sheet, email list, and promotional offer.
  • Think about how you can create mutual opportunities where both partners benefit and support each other’s growth.
  • The key is to become the kind of partner people want to work with and promote by leading with generosity, preparation, communication, and genuine relationship building.

🌟 What others said about the event:

  • Really enjoyed the session; it was value-packed, informative, and very engaging. Also, I met some super cool new people and saw some familiar faces, so it was great to learn what everyone is working on and connecting in smaller settings to explore partnerships.
  • The downloads, especially the guide to becoming the best JV partner and David Riklan JV Directory for free. Also Steve Brossman’s suggestion to spend the next hour going over the chat and deciding who to connect with and setting up appointments.
  • The genuine connections made in the breakout rooms. The Breakout rooms were great because there is a lot of chatter in the main room. Hard to keep track.
  • The idea that the following up with connections will be where the funds will be found. Simple, but so many people forget that aspect of networking.
  • The speakers and their great content in such a short time. It taught me how to be precise and effective.
  • I need to focus more on giving before asking.
  • My existing network may have more opportunities than I realize.
  • I need to be more intentional with follow-up.
  • I love the idea of becoming a partner people want to promote.
  • This reminded me that relationships should be mutually supportive.
  • Being JV-ready and seeing the value in collaboration. Thanks, this was really valuable
  • I can help by promoting events on social media and the importance of following up after various networking events.
  • This was fabulous and thank you., Lots of great resources and tools. Great connections.
  • Excellent information today! Thank you for this awesome event. Loved the education pieces
  • Great mixer. Wonderful variety of people and areas/sectors!
