Our Grand Connection event was a powerful celebration of resilience, belonging, and the connections that bring people together, where Brooke Bowman shared her inspiring journey of discovery and community building. Together, we explored how following what brings us joy, taking intentional steps to build friendships, and using the internet to find like-minded people can lead to meaningful relationships and real-world belonging.
Brooke reminded us that when we find our people and bring those connections beyond the screen, we can create communities that grow into something truly extraordinary. A special thank you to our wonderful co-hosts, Danielle Benzon and Krystal Hille, for helping make this gathering a space for inspiration, connection, and shared growth.
🌟Brooke Bowman shared:
- Shared her personal journey through a decade of heroin addiction, crystal meth use, and homelessness in Los Angeles, followed by a near-death experience that became a turning point in her life.
- Recovery was not part of a planned journey. Instead, she gradually found a sense of hope, safety, and happiness, even while she was still living on the streets.
- Began following what brought her delight and joy, finding happiness in simple activities like listening to music, playing games, and creating little quests for herself.
- By taking small steps, she eventually moved off the streets, reconnected with family and friends, and began exploring new interests through blogging and social media.
- After realizing that meaningful friendships would not simply appear on their own, she became more intentional about meeting people, making friends, and sharing her contact information.
- Joining Twitter in 2020 helped her find people who shared her interests, values, and way of thinking, giving her a sense of belonging to a community.
- What began as a simple idea to bring online friends together in person grew into Vibe Camp, whose first major event welcomed more than 400 people for three days in March 2022.
- Vibe Camp helped inspire a wider ecosystem of gatherings, including camps in different countries, local meetups, co-living communities, and groups that support shared learning and collaboration.
- Believes the internet helps people find others who share their unique interests and values, even when they live thousands of miles apart.
- Central message is that online relationships can become the foundation for real-world community. Rather than keeping friendships on social media, we can use the internet to find our people and build meaningful lives together offline..
